This was the main building of the Austrian police
in this city when it was known as Lemberg.
The architecture stresses the significance of the building.

There used to be a small prison in this building in
which Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko spent some time
for his socialist ideas.

It now houses the military faculty of Lviv Polytechnica.
